Dr. Monica Boniadi currently serves as owner and a dental practitioner at Aliso Laguna Family Dental Care, a clinic located in Laguna Hills, California. Working alongside Dr. Robert Boniadi, Dr. Monica Boniadi oversees a variety of oral healthcare treatments, including laser dentistry, porcelain veneers and implants setting, and Invisalign applications. Dr. Monica Boniadi maintains membership in the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Orange County Dental Society, and Delta Sigma Delta, the latter of which is considered the oldest international fraternity for dentists. Delta Sigma Delta traces its roots back to Lou Mitchell and Chas Howard, two University of Michigan School of Dentistry graduates. In the early 1880s, Mitchell and Howard received invitations to join the medical fraternity Nu Sigma Nu. Instead of accepting, the two opted to found their own dental fraternity. In 1882, Mitchell, Howard, and five other dentistry students met in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to establish the world’s first dentistry fraternity. For a name, Delta Sigma Delta’s founders reorganized the initials of the D.D.S. degrees they were working toward and replaced them with the Greek letters. After graduating in 1884, the original Delta Sigma Deltas founded an Alumni Chapter to remain in touch. In 1885, a second Chapter of Delta Sigma Delta began operating at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, which later became known as the Loyola University School of Dentistry. Delta Sigma Delta’s third chapter started at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Today, Delta Sigma Delta maintains undergraduate and graduate chapters throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia. The mission of the organization remains to further development of ethical, professional, and scientific standards and ideals in the field of dentistry by promoting fellowship among practitioners.
