As the owner of the Laser & Cosmetic Dental Institute of Orange County, Inc., Dr. Monica Boniadi uses minimally invasive laser technologies wherever possible. In addition to employing lasers to treat gum disease and tooth decay, Monica Boniadi, DDS, offers patients laser whitening solutions for their teeth.
Laser teeth whitening combines in-office application of a peroxide bleaching solution with laser energy that “activates” the whitening process and speeds it up significantly. While whitening treatments reduce stains a great deal, they do not permanently keep teeth at a lighter shade. To ensure that teeth remain as white as possible, avoid over-consumption of beverages that cause stains, including red wine, coffee, and tea. A straw can help those who do drink these beverages regularly to avoid stains on the highly visible front teeth.
Another strategy involves rinsing or brushing the teeth directly after consuming tooth-staining beverages. Use of whitening toothpaste twice a week and proper oral hygiene that removes plaque are also important factors in ensuring that staining is kept to a minimum. Many patients who have undergone in-office laser whitening procedures also benefit from touch-up treatments every six to 12 months.
